PE UPDATE
Since returning to school PE has changed in a number of ways. We have had to work around the current restrictions but are still providing a fun exciting PE curriculum.
We have managed to continue and finish the Woodlands School Boccia tournament. Last week Rome triumphed over a depleted Grasshoppers team, with only Jeannie-Lee playing solo most of the game! The final score was 96-86 which was a really close match. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The runners up final was played seeing Paris winning over Bumblebees 302-300. It was lovely to see classes battling it out over the Teams video feed. The final was watched by staff and SLT virtually.
In addition, Woodlands School has entered a national virtual Boccia tournament run by Boccia England. This will be three rounds and we are currently competing in round one which closes by half term when all scores are sent into Boccia England. Results are posted after the half term, so fingers crossed that we manage to continue our enthusiasm for Boccia!
We have also played a number of virtual Kurling matches against Howes Primary School, Brooke and Herewood College. We have had lots of fun and the pupils are able to meet and make new friends in the competition. We have planned to continue these virtual matches and expand to other sports including Archery. Herewood College is interested in a match on their pupils return. We look forward to continuing the competitions virtually until we can go back to physical competition.
The next intra school tournament will be for senior and some primary classes, it will be a virtual archery tournament. This will be played in classrooms with points added after each round the highest accumulated score (class) will win! We hope to start this early next week.
Finally, I wanted to share our new look PE, with lessons being held in classrooms to allow for the testing of pupils and staff in the hall. We have a delivery system so classes receive the equipment for the lessons then a member of PE will video link in with the class and join in live on camera during lessons where available. This has been quite fun! However, I do get some funny looks from staff walking in the staff work room when I'm doing Zumba with the primary classes and I'm dancing away!
At home I have been setting challenges for pupils to complete and record on a weekly basis. It would be lovely for pupils to send in some pictures of themselves taking part in these challenges to share with the rest of the school family!
